Below you will find contacts, specific addresses to write,
and numbers to call
to get off those nasty junk mailing lists and telemarketing lists
across the U.S. It's easy to eliminate almost all of your junk mail.
In doing so, you also reduce paper waste and help the environment!
This information was compiled over a number of years to help me keep
off mailing lists. It became a pastime, not an obsession, yet the
end result was this rather substantial repository of information.
In order to help disseminate this information as widely as possible,
you may copy and reproduce this information in any form, and of course
link to my main page on junk mail.
I have tried to keep information as current as possible, and would
appreciate e-mail containing relevant updates.
(Of course, I assume no liability for anyone's use of this information).
Enjoy!
Prepared by Fred Elbel.

Credit Bureaus
There are three major credit bureaus. They make big bucks
by selling address lists, and they have records on everyone.
As a matter of fact, you also might want to ask for a copy
of your credit record. Be sure to provide information they request
such as date of birth, and sign and date your letter. (See their
respective websites for additional information).
Federal Law and California Civil Code section 1785.11 requires
credit information firms to delete your name and address from mailing lists. Call:
888.5OPTOUT or 888.567.8688
to opt out from the major credit bureaus:
Trans Union, Experian, Equifax, and Innovis.
The above numbers connect you with:
National Opt-Out Center
PO Box 97328, Jackson, MS 39288-7328
You will have an option to remove your name for two years.
If you call this number, they claim you don't need to individually call the three major agencies listed immediately below. However, it would be best to also call the two Experian numbers provided below since they have two separate opt-out categories.

Info USA / Donnelley Marketing
Maintains a national consumer database. They claim to use the DMA suppression list.
Be sure to insist they completely delete your information from their database.
They normally do not delete suppression requests from their database, the only flag them as suppressed. Their full "List Install" clients purchase the entire database, including suppressed
names. It's up to the clients to honor the suppression flag. This is an error-prone and questionable procedure.

Local Bulk Mailers
Bulk mailers are companies who are in business to send you
junk mail. If you get mail addressed to "resident" or
"occupant", its hard to get off their lists, but you can
try. If the mail is addressed to you specifically, do
indeed follow up on it.
The following is a list of bulk mailers in the metro
Denver area, along with some national addresses.
Denver has been selected for this section as being representative of a large city.
Each metropolitan area has its own bulk
mailers. Some are national chains. Check in the yellow
pages for mailers near you. To track down a specific mailer,
check the fine print on material mailed to you.
Thanks to our researchers for providing this local information.
